The day began with the celebration of the Eucharist, presided by Fr Gilbert Freire, SJ. The mass was animated by the Sisters of Togo, who reminded us that prayer keeps alive the light in our hearts.

Inspired by this call to vigilance, we spent much of the day discussing revisions to the Directory of the Institute. Sisters engaged with great commitment in this process, a culmination of the discernment that has happened in all of our local communities, Provinces and Delegations over the past years. As always, the sharing of personal reflections on the integration and importance of the Directory in our daily lives as Canossians enriched the work of today.

In the afternoon the room was energized with our missionary zeal as we shared our suggestions on the draft guidelines for Ad Gentes and temporary service in the Institute. Sr Sandra Maggiolo challenged us to be open to the new vision of the Church and Mission, re-awakening our hearts to take on a new missionary style whilst fostering our responsibility for the Canossian mission in today’s world.

The day concluded with Sr Maria Grazia Bongarzone sharing with us about the current situation of Casa Madre. It was a fitting way to end the day, recalling the place where St Magdalene of Canossa lived and its significance in our history.

We pray for big hearts, and the grace to sit and contemplate the face of the Crucified Lord and share this love with our brothers and sisters.
