The celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Generalate House at Ottavia, began with the welcome of M. Sandra Maggiolo, the Superior General.

It was a great joy with the presence of the Vicar General of the Daughters of the Church, Sr. Maria Giampiccolo, and the Postulator General Sr. Maria Teresa Sotgiu. A friendship way back at the time of the venerable Maria Oliva Bonaldo, a Canossian Sister for 20 years and the Foundress of Daughters of the Church, with so much love of her “mothers” and whom she honored with purple gladiola every year on September 15th.

“Weaving a communion between charisms, being able to rejoice in diversity”, this is what the Holy Father invites us to live to discover the beauty of inter-congregational relationship.

The Eucharistic celebration was simple and intimate, enriched by the liturgical animation of the young sisters in formation, from all over the world, who arrived from the community of San Michele – Rome.

A significant message of the celebrant Fr. Giorgio Spinello – Son of Charity, during the homily made us understand the reason for the possible choice of Magdalene of Canossa in identifying in Our Lady of Sorrows the “foundress of the Institute”. Looking at the Cross and looking at Mary beneath the Cross means looking at the most beautiful and highest image that God has of himself: that man nailed to the cross is a man who cares about who is with him: “Woman, behold your son, son, behold your Mother”. From that cross we do not hear words that ask for justice or revenge, but we hear words of love. At this moment, when the Church is born, there is a great gesture of love for humanity.

May every baptized person, and in particular every son and daughter of St. Magdalene, be able to make gestures of love for humanity following the example of Mary of Sorrows, woman of welcome and love!
