“God has given you a great gift by calling you to this Holy Institute of Charity and you have the duty of responding worthily to such a big grace.” (St Magdalene of Canossa)

We thank God for gifting our Singapore/Myanmar Province with the first two Canossian Sisters from Myanmar: Sr. Maria Ja Awn and Sr. Antonia Mya Mya Lone who made their Perpetual Profession at Epiphany Church in Yangon, Myanmar on 9 January 2023. Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye (from Yangon Archdiocese) celebrated the Eucharist together with seven Priests. Among them were: Sr. Maria’s brother, Fr. Paul, a diocesan priest from Myitkyina, and Sr. Antonia’s brother, Fr. Andrea, a Salesian priest from Mandalay.

Sr Christina Yeo, (Provincial Leader of Singapore/Myanmar Province) received the vows together with Sr Angela Ng and Sr Marion as witnesses. It was a joyful and overwhelming moment celebrated with the presence of the seven Canossian Sisters, family members of Sr. Maria and Sr. Antonia, Sisters from many Religious Congregations in Myanmar, friends and parishioners of Epiphany Church. Children and educators from Canossa Home formed the choir and made the celebration livelier with their beautiful voices and songs sung in both English and Burmese languages.

The Mass was followed by a delicious lunch prepared with love by a team of ladies from the Parish. Both Sisters Maria & Antonia were deeply touched and grateful for their vocation and confident that God’s love will accompany them throughout their journey.

“I felt secure in the loving presence of God the Father and having Jesus in front of me, gave me the joy and confidence that I am making my vows together with Jesus.

In Jesus I am able to walk towards the perfection of Love.”

                                      Sr. Maria

“I am very grateful to God who has called me, accompanied me, loved me with everlasting love and blessed me with many good people and events. I feel His guiding hand is always on me. I just marvel at what He has done for me. I can’t find a word to express my joy. I feel very blessed as I am well supported by my family physically, emotionally, and spiritually. My parents and six of my siblings were present at my Perpetual Profession and that gave me a lot of assurance for my calling. Now we have two Religious Sisters and one Religious Priest in our family!”

                                                                                 Sr. Antonia

It was a very touching moment for us since it is the first time for us Canossians to have Perpetual Profession in Myanmar.

We pray for Sr Maria and Sr Antonia, that they may continue to be imbibed in the love and spirit of Christ Crucified be always accompanied by our Blessed Mother and our Foundress, St Magdalene.

With grateful hearts, we pray that more young women will come forward to walk in the footsteps of St. Magdalene.

                                                                       Sr. Anita Vallence
